5 Tips for Getting Algae Out of Your Pool

Summer is approaching fast, and that can only mean one thing – swimming! If you have a pool, it’s essential to keep it clean so that you and your family can enjoy it safely. While a pool inspection by Residential Inspector of America ensures your pool is working properly, other issues can still arise. One of the most common problems with pools is algae growth. So, let’s look at these five tips for getting algae out of your pool quickly and easily!

1. Vacuum Your Pool Regularly

Pool algae is a common problem that can be difficult to eliminate. Luckily, there is a simple solution: vacuuming your pool regularly. By vacuuming your pool, you remove the already present algae and prevent new algae from growing. Vacuuming your pool once a week should be sufficient to keep algae at bay.

2. Brush the Floors and Walls

Brushing the walls and floor of your pool should also be a part of your weekly chore list. This exercise helps remove algae that are already growing, and it will also make it more difficult for new algae to take hold. Regular brushing also removes any other dirt or grime built up from everyday use.

3. Shock the Water

While there are several chemicals you can use to kill algae, the best way to get rid of it is to shock the water. Shocking the pool essentially means raising the chlorine levels for a short period of time. This will kill off the algae and also any other bacteria that may be present in the water. You must shock the pool regularly, especially if you live in an area with high humidity levels.

4. Test and Balance the Chemicals

Pool algae is a common problem caused by several factors, including improper pH levels, inadequate filtration, and excessive pool use. So, it's important you test and balance the chemicals regularly. By keeping the pH level between 7.2 and 7.6, you can create an environment hostile to algae growth.

5. Keep Your Pool Filter Clean

One of the best ways to keep algae out of your pool is to clean your filter. A dirty pool filter will not only allow algae to grow, but it will also make it harder to keep your pool water clean. In addition to keeping your pool filter clean, you should also regularly check and clean your pool deck, skimmer baskets, and ladders.
